Vacation Leave 

Paid vacation starts upon hire for full-time employees (excluding contracted faculty)

Vacation for Non-Contracted Hourly Employees 

Vacation leave is credited annually. For the purpose of computing vacation leave the fiscal year is used. Employees beginning employment with EICC will receive pro-rated vacation leave for the remaining fiscal year. At the beginning of the next fiscal year, the employee will be credited with the vacation hours for the second year of employment. Vacation hours will be credited on the following basis for employees working 40 hours per week and pro-rated for those working less than 40 hours but still qualifying for vacation leave.

Contracted Personnel (Salaried)

Commencing with the first day of the month in which employment begins, and up to and including the final full month of continuous employment, vacation will be accrued at the rate of 13.3 hours per month, 160 hours of vacation per year.

Sick Leave 

Sick leave begins upon hire for full- and part-time employees, including contracted faculty.

Sick leave is credited annually to employees who are working 20 or more hours per week. Sick leave is prorated for new employees who start after July 1. Sick leave is to be used for absences resulting from sickness, injury, illness, or disability. 

Sick leave is credited annually to eligible employees. For the purpose of computing sick leave the fiscal year is used for administrative, professional support, and support staff. Employees beginning employment with the District receive a pro-rated amount of sick leave for the remaining academic or fiscal year. At the beginning of the next fiscal year they are credited with the sick leave hours provided for the second year of employment.

Sick leave will be credited on the following basis for employees working 40 hours per week and pro-rated for those working less than 40 hours but still qualifying for sick leave. Eligible employees who work other lengths of employment will also receive pro-rated sick leave based on the following schedule:

Contracted administrative, professional support, and other non-contracted staff may use up to thirty-two (32) hours of their sick leave annually to attend to the illness of a person in their immediate family who lives in the same household, as well as the employee’s mother, father, mother-in-law, or father-in-law. Upon returning to work from sick leave, an employee is required to complete a leave request form and receive supervisor approval. In the case of unusual circumstances, a doctor's statement or other acceptable source of proof of illness or injury may be required by the President or Executive Officer.

In the case of illness requiring hospitalization of a member of the employee’s immediate family, contracted administrative, professional support, and other non-contracted staff may use up to twenty-four (24) hours annually to attend to the illness of a person in their immediate family. Such absence shall not be charged against personal sick leave. The immediate family shall be interpreted as father, mother, son, daughter, wife, husband, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and any other member of the immediate household. The granting of this leave is subject to the approval of the Executive Officer. Upon returning to work from sick leave, an employee is required to complete a leave request form and receive supervisor approval. In the case of unusual circumstances, the Director of Human Resources may require a certificate from a medical doctor or other acceptable source as proof of such illness.

Personal Leave

Regular full-time employees, as defined in Board Policy 430 and excluding employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement, may be granted up to two (2) days of discretionary/personal leave per fiscal year for the purposes of attending to personal affairs. Discretionary/personal leave for those employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement will be administered according to the terms of the contract.

Employees must secure prior approval of the Executive Officer before such leave may be taken. A request for personal leave shall be made at least one week in advance of the day or days for which such leave is desired. Said leave shall not be cumulative and will terminate upon termination, retirement, or death.

Bereavement Leave

Regular full-time employees, as defined in Board Policy 430 and excluding employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement, may be granted bereavement leave as described below. Leave for those employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement will be administered according to the terms of the contract.

In the event of the death of a member of the employee’s immediate family, an employee may be granted up to five days of bereavement leave annually, with full pay subject to the approval of the Executive Officer. Immediate family shall be interpreted as father, mother, son, daughter, wife, husband, stepchild, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and any other member of the immediate household.

The employee shall complete a request for paid bereavement and receive approval. In the case of unusual circumstances, the Director of Human Resources may require proof of death.

Holidays

Paid holidays start upon hire for full-time employees excluding contracted faculty.

EICC recognizes the following 11 days as paid holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Day Before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

EICC Faculty and Staff are gifted Christmas Eve to New Year's Day as paid time off.  Summer Fridays in June and July are also gifted (9 hour work days Monday to Thursday during that time).
