What is an Internship or Co-Op?
Both are structured hands-on work experiences where you apply what you've learned in a professional setting. An internship is different from a short-term job or volunteering because there is an intentional “learning agenda” structured into the experience. During internships, you are supervised by someone at the organization who helps you meet your goals and reflect on what you are learning.
Internship or Co-Op Characteristics:
- Lasts anywhere from 1 month to 1 year, but a typical experience is usually 3-6 months.
- Should balance the needs of the organization and your learning goals.
- Can be part-time or full-time, for credit or non-credit, and paid or unpaid.
Which Programs Require Internships?
Many of EICC’s career and technical programs offer an internship component where you can earn credit toward your degree. Some internships are optional and some are required. Contact your advisor or program faculty for more information.
Our Career Services Coordinators are happy to work 1:1 with you. No time to meet? Here's a list of resources to help you. Remember all EICC students and alumni have access to Handshake.
