Program Description for Supply Chain and Logistics
Eastern Iowa Community Colleges students have a number of choices when it comes to the Supply Chain and Logistics area. The Associate in Applied Science Degree is designed for those individuals wishing to enter the job market with the skills to perform a variety of job functions in the logistics and supply chain field. Supply Chain and Logistics professionals are responsible for the entire life cycle of a product, including acquisition, distribution, internal allocation, delivery and final disposal of resources.
Two certificates and a diploma program are also available to students.
These include an Inventory Control Certificate and a Logistics and Transportation Certificate.
The Logistics and Transportation Certificate provides a broad overview of transportation while building the foundation of skills for entry into the field of logistics. The Logistics Diploma Program incorporates both certificates as well as providing the critical thinking skills necessary for career advancement in the field.
The logistics field includes industries providing transportation of passengers and cargo, warehousing and storage of goods, scenic and sightseeing transportation, and support activities related to air, rail, water, road and pipeline transportation. Logistics and supply chain management graduates work in the logistics field incorporating such tasks as transportation, warehousing, inventory control, purchasing, scheduling, safety, management, electronic data interchange (RFID and GIS - Geographic Information Systems), order processing, traffic management, security, packaging and location site analysis.

Job Outlook for Supply Chain and Logistics
According to the US Department of Labor, more than 4,250,000 people are employed in the logistics and supply chain area across the country with an expected 26% increase anticipated in the next ten years. Starting wage is between $21,000 and $37,000 annually depending greatly on job duties and responsibilities within the broad category of logistics and the supply chain. Managers in Transportation, Storage, and Distribution have a higher wage outlook with median salary nationally of $73,000 annually.
