Schools across our region are facing a critical shortage of substitute teachers, and Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) is stepping up to help. There’s still time to enroll in EICC’s Substitute Teacher Authorization Course, which begins March 1 at the Scott Community College Urban Campus in Davenport.

If you’ve ever considered working with children or teens, now is the time to act. This program provides the essential training to become an authorized substitute teacher, covering key topics like Ethics, Classroom Management, Diversity, and Instructional Strategies. Upon successful completion of the course and submission of state requirements, participants will be eligible to sub in K-12 classrooms.

Who Qualifies?

  • Individuals with at least 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution
  • Certified paraprofessionals with a valid Paraeducator certificate

Certified Paraeducators who complete this course may also substitute in their assigned special education classroom and, in some cases, serve in additional settings with district approval.

  • Dates: Saturdays, March 1 & March 8
  • Time: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. 
  • Location: Scott Community College Urban Campus, 101 W. Third St., Davenport 
  • Format: In-person, hands-on training
