Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) officially dedicated The Vetter Board Room during
its Board of Trustees meeting this week, honoring the memory, service and legacy of
Ellis Vetter and his son, Bill Vetter.
Family members, friends and members of the EICC community attended the dedication
and gathered for a reception prior to the meeting to recognize the Vetters’ years
of service and contributions to the college.
Together, the father and son gave decades of service to EICC. Ellis Vetter served
on the Board of Trustees from 1966 to 1990. Bill Vetter served from 1996 to 2011 and
again from 2015 to 2023.
The EICC Board of Trustees formally approved the naming through a resolution adopted
July 20, 2026.
“Ellis and Bill Vetter both understood the important role EICC plays in the communities
we serve,” said EICC Board Chair, Bob Gallagher. “Their leadership helped move the
college forward, and naming this room in their honor is a meaningful way to recognize
the lasting impact they made on EICC, our students and our communities.”
Bill Vetter’s commitment to EICC was especially evident in the DeWitt community, where
he played an instrumental role in bringing the DeWitt Career Advancement Center to
life. The center expanded access to hands-on career and technical education for area
students and reflected Bill’s belief in partnerships that connect education, workforce needs and
community growth.
A plaque displayed in The Vetter Board Room honors Ellis and Bill’s decades of dedication
and their lasting contributions to EICC’s mission.
The room now serves as a permanent tribute to the impact they have made on the college
and the communities it serves.
