More than half of college students worry about covering monthly expenses. At Eastern
Iowa Community Colleges, that reality is shaping decisions.
Students at EICC will see no increase in tuition for the 2026–27 academic year, giving
them greater certainty as they plan for college and their future careers.
Already among the most affordable options in Iowa, EICC will maintain current tuition rates as families continue to navigate rising costs. The decision reflects both the
college’s commitment to access and a clear understanding of the financial challenges
students face.
According to the 2025 Student Financial Wellness Survey, 52% of students worry about
having enough money to cover monthly expenses, and 63% say they would have difficulty
accessing $500 in an emergency.
“At EICC, we believe cost should never stand in the way of what’s next,” said Chancellor
Bryan Renfro, PhD. “For many students, cost is the biggest question mark. Holding
tuition steady removes some of that uncertainty and helps students move forward with
confidence. This is about making sure students can start and finish without added
financial pressure.”
“Our role is to serve students and strengthen our communities,” said Michelle Garvin,
Board of Trustees Vice President. “Keeping tuition affordable is a clear investment
in both. When we reduce barriers to education, we are not only supporting individual
students, we are building a stronger workforce and a stronger region. This matters
right now for families, for employers, and for the future of our communities.”
EICC serves Clinton, Muscatine, Scott, and Jackson counties, as well as parts of Cedar
and Louisa counties. Across the region, EICC supports learners at every stage. That
includes high school students earning college credit through concurrent enrollment,
adult learners building new skills or changing careers, and partnerships with local
employers to deliver workforce training that meets current industry needs.
With flexible programs, multiple learning formats, and clear pathways from classroom
to career, EICC continues to align its offerings with what students and employers
need most. From transfer degrees that save students thousands of dollars to hands-on
career programs that lead directly to in-demand jobs, the college is focused on outcomes
that make a difference.
By keeping tuition flat, EICC reinforces its mission to expand opportunity and ensure
that education remains within reach for more students across eastern Iowa.
