Clinton Community College's Library Art Gallery is currently exhibiting work by Allen Eberle. All are invited to attend this exhibit that showcases the colorful and creative pieces Allen painted as part of his “Splintalism Old Maid” collection. This group of paintings reflects his interpretation of the Old Maid card game with each oversized painting of the game’s characters, lit by blacklight causing a “shock and awe” effect. The college will host an Artist Reception for Allen Eberle at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23. Clinton Community College is located at 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton, Iowa.
In his artist statement, Allen states, “I became an artist by drawing cereal box characters when it occurred to me that the cereal box aisle was like an art gallery. Eventually drawing led to 3-D black light paintings, writing, singing, rapping, and performing presidential impersonations.” Eberle continued, “The artwork for the Old Main series uses ‘Splintalism.’ I invented splintalism 35 years ago during a drawing class at Clinton Community College. This art form uses lines, geometric shapes, and neon colors to depict images. I was inspired to transform flatness of the traditional Old Maid card game using the splintalism technique. The names of the characters were updated to reflect the change. I hope to eventually animate the series.”
The community is invited to attend this free event.
