Clinton Community College
Two years ago, Brittany Conduff sat in her car outside Clinton Community College, nervous and unsure if she belonged. Now, this 35-year-old mother of five has been chosen as a graduation speaker after earning academic honors, joining Phi Theta Kappa, and transforming into a confident leader. Her inspiring journey—from a lead resident assistant in memory care to future psychiatric nurse practitioner—shows the power of perseverance, purpose, and finding your voice at any stage of life.
Also graduating from Clinton is Elena Brisch, a triple-enrolled student who balanced homeschooling, high school, and full-time college classes at Clinton Community College. She is earning her associate’s degree before even receiving her high school diploma. Known for her love of learning, talent in music, and ambitious schedule, she says her time at Clinton taught her how to manage real college expectations and stay accountable. “I think we can pretty much accomplish anything we put our mind to,” she said.
Muscatine Community College
At Muscatine, Elexiana Oliva earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice in just one year, thanks to her early start in a high school career academy. During her time at Muscatine Community College, she served as Student Senate President and a Student Ambassador, earning recognition as a leader on campus and a voice for her peers. Her blend of academic achievement, service, and community engagement has set her apart, and she will be among the featured student speakers at this year’s commencement ceremony.
Scott Community College
At 28, Joeanna Moore realized the career she wanted would require more than experience; it would require a degree. She made the bold decision to return to school, and at 32, she is graduating from Scott Community College (SCC) with academic honors. This fall, she plans to transfer to Columbia University to pursue a doctorate in Cognitive Neuroscience. While at Scott, Joeanna distinguished herself as both a student leader and scholar. She served as a lab assistant in the Health Sciences department, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and helped lead the interdisciplinary Physarum Polycephalum Agency Capstone, which explored slime mold behavior through psychology and political science.
Also graduating from SCC is Christopher Bolin. Raised by a single mother and without a clear path to college, Chris spent years struggling with substance use following the loss of his grandfather. A single phone call to his mom asking for help became the turning point. He relocated to the Quad Cities, enrolled at Scott Community College, and began rebuilding his life. Now in his mid-30s, Chris is graduating with a degree in Physics and a 3.8 GPA. He served as president of SCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and launched a SMART Recovery program on campus to support others navigating addiction and recovery. This fall, he plans to transfer to a university to continue his education, with long-term goals of working in robotics and using technology to help others.
