Scott Community College's (SCC) culinary arts program is set to host its inaugural Culinary Showcase event on Friday, April 12 from 12 - 1 p.m. at the Culinary Arts Center, 500 Belmont Rd. in Bettendorf. This exciting culinary event will feature 10 local high schools, each sending a group of students to showcase their skills and creativity.
To prepare for the showcase, teams of four high school students will work with a SCC culinary student to create a series of mouthwatering dishes. Guided by chefs from EICC's culinary department, participants will showcase their culinary prowess, demonstrating skills in basic food preparation, cooking and baking techniques, sanitation, and safety.
The menu for the Culinary Showcase will feature a variety of “small bites,” including savory meats and delightful desserts. Food preparation will take place from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., followed by an open house from 12 - 1 p.m., where members of the EICC community will sample the culinary creations and experience the future of culinary arts in the Quad Cities.
“This event is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the talents and passion of our region's aspiring chefs,” said Diane Stanley, Culinary Arts Program Facilitator at SCC. “We're thrilled to showcase the skills of these young culinary students and provide them with a platform to shine.”
The Culinary Showcase at SCC also coincides with QC Restaurant Week, April 8 - 14. This alignment offers attendees the perfect opportunity to explore and celebrate the Quad Cities’ vibrant culinary scene.
