In partnership with Muscatine Community College, the Muscatine Police Department is offering high school students the opportunity to learn more about law enforcement through their Junior Police Academy. The five-day training will take place June 3 – 7 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. Students will learn what it takes to become a police officer with hands-on lessons and activities, including:

  • Physical Conditioning 
  • OWI processing / Standardized Field Sobriety Testing
  • Muscatine Special Operations Team (SWAT)
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • K-9 Operations
  • Evidence collection 
  • Medical Training
  • Defensive Tactics

There is no cost to attend and lunch is provided. All high school students are eligible to apply, however space is limited. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors. Those that attend will have an opportunity to earn a $500 scholarship from the Muscatine Police Officers Association and a $500 scholarship from Muscatine Community College (if they choose to continue their education at one of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges.) The deadline to apply is May 1, 2024.
