Program Description for Mechanical Design (CAD)
Changes are occurring right now in manufacturing that make it necessary for potential
employees to have higher skill levels than ever before. Critical thinking, problem
solving, math, science, computer abilities, team building and communication skills
are at the top of the list.
Any graduate from the EICC Mechanical Design Technology program will receive these skills as part of their intensive computer aided design (CAD) training. The Mechanical Design Technology program includes proficiencies require by industry, delivered in a practical hand’s on method that applies directly to the world of work.
Parametric solid modeling is now the standard in the industry. That’s why here at EICC we incorporated it into our curriculum several years ago. We offer solid modeling training in the industry standard software, SolidWorks, all the while requiring hundreds of hours of lab time which prepares our students well for employment. Our graduates’ extensive CAD training gives them the edge they need to succeed in today’s job market.
Award Options for Mechanical Design (CAD)
- Mechanical Design Technology, AAS
- Mechanical Design Technology, Certificate
- Mechanical Design Technology, Diploma
- Solid Modeling, Certificate
All three of these awards/paths to completion are available via the EICC MediaSite system and are offered at the Blong Technology Center in Davenport as well as Clinton Community College and Muscatine Community College.
Mechanical Design (CAD) Program Flexibility
The Mechanical Design Technology program has been offered district wide through the EICC MediaSite system. This technology allows students access to lectures of the internet at the BTC, CCC, or MCC sites, or any site of the student’s choosing as long as there is internet access. Instructors are available on each campus on a set schedule, with lab and classroom also available at each site. It is the responsibility of the student to make sure he or she allows adequate time to complete assigned work for any course they are enrolled in.
Job Classification for Mechanical Design (CAD)
Titles include: drafting technician, design technician, mechanical drafter, mechanical designer, engineering technician, detailer, etc. All consist of design and development work by preparing detailed drawings showing exact dimensions and specifications – most prepared on CAD systems.
