MCC Legends
MCC honored Max Allan Collins at its annual Legends dinner on March 30, 2023.
The event honors individuals who are significant supporters of the college, its students, faculty, and staff. Collins’ connections to MCC run deep: he graduated from MCC, taught on campus, and jammed here with his band, Cruisin’. His wife, Barb, and their son, Nathan, are MCC alumni, and his dad, Max Sr. (a talented musician in his own right) also taught for the college.
Collins is a celebrated mystery writer. He was honored as a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Private Eye Writers of America, is a 22-time Shamus Award nominee, and winner of multiple Shamus, Scribe, and Anthony Awards. He is also a filmmaker (“Mommy,” “Mike Hammer’s Mickey Spillane”) and an award-winning musician (“Daybreakers,” “Cruisin"). His lifetime of creative contributions were celebrated during the event.
Funds raised through the Legends dinner support our students through the MCC Foundation and MJC/MCC Alumni Association.
The event was held at Muscatine's Merrill Hotel. MCC Culinary students worked side-by-side
with chefs from Muscatine’s finest restaurants to prepare signature dishes.
