TO: Eastern Iowa Community Colleges
FROM: Robert H. Gallagher, Chair, Board of Trustees and Chancellor Search Committee

I am pleased to inform you that the Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Sonya Williams as the next Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges. She will begin her duties on August 8. We welcome Dr. Williams’ leadership as we begin the next chapter of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges’ history.

Dr. Sonya Williams currently serves as Vice President of Education and Chief Academic Officer at College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL. She previously served as Dean of the Arts and Sciences Division at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL. Dr. Williams earned a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma; a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Anatomical Sciences and Cell Biology/Neurosciences from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center; and completed post-doctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine. She also served as a Captain in the United States Air Force.

Dr. Williams’ two decades of academic leadership include experience and expertise in areas that directly address the challenges and opportunities identified in the position profile, including enrollment management and student success, online and concurrent enrollment, and shared governance. We are confident that she can move the college forward in these key areas.

On behalf of the Board, I would also like to extend my appreciation to the entire college community for your participation at the recent Chancellor forums. All feedback was reviewed and greatly valued by the Board. Everyone’s collaborative and concerted work truly enriched the search process. I would also like to express my appreciation to the Chancellor Search Committee for their time, dedication and thoughtful work on behalf of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges.
