Mission, Goals, and Student Learning Outcomes
Mission Statement
The Scott Community College Radiologic Technology Programs is a part of the Allied Health Department in the Career and Technical Education Division. The program’s mission is to prepare clinically competent students for entry level positions in Radiologic Technology. In addition, prepare students who can effectively communicate and critically think in the practice of Radiologic Technology. In doing so, instill a sense of pride for the profession, compassion and empathy for their fellowman, and a desire for professional growth.
Goals and Student Learning Outcomes in Support of the Programs Mission:
PROGRAM GOAL #1
Graduate students who function as clinically competent Radiologic Technologists.
- Student learning outcomes in support of goal 1:
- 1 Graduates will provide radiation safety for self and patients.
- 2 Graduates will consistently produce diagnostic quality radiographic images.
- 3 Graduates will rate themselves as competent entry level radiology technologists.
- 4 Students will pass the ARRT certification exam on the first attempt.
- 5 Employers will have enough graduates to hire.
PROGRAM GOAL #2
Graduate students who demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Student learning outcomes in support of goal 2:
- 1 Students will be able to critique appropriate 90 degree imaging.
- 2 Students will properly critique a image for acceptable qualities.
- 3 Graduates will be able to adapt for non-routine patients/exams.
PROGRAM GOAL #3
Graduate students who effectively communicate as
- Student learning outcomes in support of goal 3:
- 1 Students demonstrate effective oral communication skills in the clinical setting.
- 2 Students demonstrate effective written communication skills.
PROGRAM GOAL #4
Graduate students who exhibit professional behaviors and who understand the importance of professional development and growth
- Student learning outcomes in support of goal 4:
- 1 Students will demonstrate professional behavior in the clinical setting.
- 2 Students will behave in a compassionate and empathetic manner toward patients.
- 3 Students will understand the importance of and demonstrate Medical ethics.
- 4 Students will demonstrate participation in professional growth and learning activities.
PROGRAM GOAL #5
Graduate students who will perform as entry level radiographers to meet the needs of the health care community.
- Student learning outcomes in support of goal 5:
- 1 Graduates will find employment.
- 2 Graduates will perform as competent employees.
- 3 Graduates will rate themselves as competent entry level radiology technologists.
- 4 Students will pass the ARRT certification exam on the first attempt.
