Muscatine Civic Chorale Performance November 22
Celebrate the holiday season with the Muscatine Civic Chorale as they perform “A Cool Jazz Christmas,” November 22, in Muscatine Community College’s Bob Roach Little Theatre, 152 Colorado St. The 7 p.m. performance is part of the college’s 90th Anniversary celebration.
The Muscatine Civic Chorale was started by Muscatine Community College (MCC) music instructor Jeordano (Pete) Martinez in the spring of 1975. He resurrected the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra as well, really wanting to include "the community" in the community college.
The college’s strong tradition of partnership with the chorale continues today. Rehearsals are held at the college and the group is directed by retired MCC music instructor Jan Phillips. Many MCC alumni and even current students perform in the chorale.
"A Cool Jazz Christmas" includes music from the 1920's to today. The event is free of charge though a goodwill donation to support the chorale’s ongoing performance is appreciated.
Muscatine Community College continues to offer students terrific opportunities to perform with both choir and jazz choir performances. Students can also earn their Associates in Arts Degree in music with classes in voice, theory, instrumental and more.
