Dear EICC Community,
On Monday, the Board approved a new partnership with SMG (smgtech.biz) to assume responsibility for our helpdesk and technology support functions.
This decision follows two comprehensive IT assessments conducted last fall. The message from those assessments was clear: if we are going to deliver high-quality education and training, we must have current, reliable technology in every classroom and service area. To do so, we must elevate our structures and supports, strengthen our service model, and invest in the right tools and expertise.
Partnering with SMG is the first step. The company currently supports institutions such as Kirkwood, DMACC, ILCC, and Hawkeye Community College. They are well vetted and widely respected for providing quality service and support. Over the next several months, we will implement a staged plan to replace outdated classroom technology and prioritize the most critical needs across the college. SMG will support and accelerate our progress.
This new partnership will affect 10 of our colleagues in helpdesk and technical support roles. These individuals are valued members of our community. Transitions like this can be difficult for those directly impacted and the teams around them. Each staff member will have the opportunity to interview with SMG and continue in this work, with opportunities to grow and develop professionally. We will support our colleagues through this transition and honor the important contributions they have made to this college.
Through listening, formal assessments, and critical input from stakeholders across the college, we are making this decision because it best serves and supports our students. Through this new structure, we will create space for growth, responsiveness, and the ability to evolve alongside emerging technology and the investments ahead.
