Information provided will be evaluated based on the following criteria as it is applicable.
1. Goal Statements
Level 0, 0 Points
- No statement of intent to succeed at Scott Community College.
- Lacks plan for the future.
- No reference to reasonable timeframe for achieving stated goals.
- Essay contains many misspellings and/or grammatical errors
Level I, 1 Points
- Unclear or inconclusive statement of intent to succeed at Scott Community College.
- Incomplete plan for the future.
- References a timeframe for achieving stated goals.
- Essay is disorganized and/or contains misspellings and/or grammatical errors.
Level II, 2 Points
- Includes statement of intent to succeed at Scott Community College.
- Provides evidence of plan for the future.
- Offers a general timeframe for achieving stated goals.
- Essay is logically sequenced and contains a few minor misspellings and/or grammatical errors.
Level III, 3 Points
- Clearly states intent to succeed at Scott Community College.
- Clearly addresses plans for the future.
- Includes a detailed timeframe for achieving stated goals.
- Essay is logically arranged, flowing smoothly from one subject to the next; no major misspellings and/or grammatical errors.
2. Student Engagement and Community Enrichment – may be within application and/or
goal statement

- No evidence of involvement in student engagement or community enrichment activities
Level I, 1 Points
- Little evidence of involvement in student engagement or community enrichment activities.
Level II, 2 Points
- Offers evidence of involvement in student engagement or community enrichment activities, but does not include what they have learned/what skills they acquired.
Level III, 3 Points
- Identifies clear and detailed examples of recent involvement in student engagement or community enrichment activities and includes what they have learned/what skills they acquired.
Student engagement includes activities such as: student clubs, band, choir, sports, Phi Theta Kappa, Honors Program, or Student Government.
Community enrichment includes activities such as: work experience, volunteering, community service, advisory boards, youth groups, or scouting.
3. and 4. References (I and II)
Level 0, 0 Points
- References from family members or friends will be given a score of 0 points. References must be from a person whose relationship with the student is either work
or school related.
Provides no positive observations regarding the student and their academic and/or leadership abilities.
Rated as mostly below average, poor, or unable to make a determination for the applicant’s personal dependability, motivation, leadership, ability to get along well with others, and likelihood of academic success.
Level I, 1 Points
- Provides few positive observations regarding the student and their academic and/or leadership abilities.
- Rated as mostly average or below average for the applicant’s personal dependability,
motivation, leadership, ability to get along well with others, and likelihood of academic
success.
Level II, 2 Points
- Provides positive and enthusiastic observations regarding the student and their academic and/or leadership abilities.
- Does not identify specific examples of accomplishments.
- Rated as mostly above average for the applicant’s personal dependability, motivation,
leadership, ability to get along well with others, and likelihood of academic success.
Level III, 3 Points
- Clearly indicates positive and enthusiastic observations regarding the student and their academic and/or leadership abilities.
- Provides examples related to observations.
- Rated as mostly excellent for the applicant’s personal dependability, motivation, leadership, ability to get along well with others, and likelihood of academic success.
5. Unmet Financial Need
Level 0, 0 Points
- Percentage of expenses* not covered is undetermined.
- Student has no notable circumstances that create a financial need.
Level I, 1 Points
- Percentage of expenses* not covered is low (~25% or less).
- Student has unusual circumstances that indicate a minor financial need.
Level II, 2 Points
- Percentage of expenses* not covered is moderate (~26-50%).
- Student has unusual circumstances that indicate a moderate financial need.
Level III, 3 Points
- Percentage of expenses* not covered is high (~51% or higher).
- Student has unusual circumstances that indicate a major financial need.
*Out of pocket expenses and student loans should be considered as part of expenses.
