Emergencies
Reporting
If an emergency arises in a classroom, notify your instructor immediately. If your
instructor is unavailable, generally, you should notify your division office. If you
see an emergency situation in the parking lots, hallways, etc., a central location
for reporting emergencies is the switchboard operator located in the Information Center,
Room 2300 at the Belmont Campus. At the SCC Urban Campus please report emergencies
at the first floor front desk or at the John T. Blong Technology Center - the front
desk.
Fire Plan
Belmont Campus
A fire exit map is posted in each classroom. Please become familiar with this plan.
If a fire is discovered, you should: (a) pull the nearest alarm; (b) call from an
in-house phone 0 (switchboard) and identify the location of the fire to the switchboard
operator located in the Information Center. 113 The operator will call 911. In case
of a fire alarm: (a) all students should leave the building quickly, quietly and in
single file by the exit marked unless otherwise instructed; (b) students may be appointed
by the staff to operate fire extinguisher, make phone calls, etc.; (c) after leaving
the building, students will continue to walk one hundred (100) feet away from the
building. When an all clear of 2 short blasts on the alarm system is sounded, it is
safe to return to class.

Tornado
Belmont Campus
1. In the event of a tornado, the warning signal will be an announcement through the intercom.
2. Proceed to safe areas in hallways and rooms without windows on the lower levels
of the Belmont
building. Specific areas are noted on the emergency exit plan posted in each room.
3. The Applied Technologies building should evacuate lab areas and proceed to hallways or rooms in the center of the building.
4. Everyone should stay in a "safe" area, until the all clear signal is sounded. The
all clear signal is an
announcement through the intercom.
SCC Urban Campus
1. In the event of a tornado, the warning signal will be a series of short whooping
signals.
2. Proceed to safe areas in hallways and rooms without windows on the lower levels
of the building.
Specific areas are noted on the emergency exit plan posted in each room.
3.Once everyone is in a "safe" area, the alarm may be turned off-due to the noise. This DOES NOT mean the emergency situation is over. Everyone should remain in the "safe" area until notified via the public address system that you can return to classrooms.
Emergency Procedures
The intercom system will announce any emergencies at all locations. Students should remain calm and follow the directions provided by the intercom system.
