April 21 Student Communication
It has now been a month since we made the difficult decision to continue the spring
semester online and close our campus buildings, although it seems so much longer than
that. Every day, I hear from faculty and staff about how our students are rising to
meet challenges both academically and personally while continuing to focus on coursework
and academic goals. I also hear how much we as a college community miss being together.
As we connect with you remotely in online and Zoom classrooms or over the phone, we
are inspired by your commitment to succeed and the strength you demonstrate.
Campus Building Closure
The EICC leadership team continues to monitor the health and safety conditions in
our region. The state of Iowa reports growing numbers of cases, showing we have not
yet reached the peak, and Iowa’s governor this past Friday announced the closure of
K-12 schools through the remainder of this academic year. Based upon the best information
and guidance we now have, we have decided to continue the closure of our campus buildings
until at least May 17. While our buildings may remain closed, we continue to be available
to serve you. You can find information on accessing college services remotely at eicc.edu/c19studentservices.
Summer Term and Fall Semester Plans
This week, we will begin to adjust the summer schedule to offer most classes online
or via Zoom technologies. As the conditions in our community allow us to return to
campuses and reopen labs, select summer courses may hold on-campus hands-on labs as
part of summer instruction. Instructors and deans are finalizing plans for summer
offerings now. Early next week, we will communicate revised schedules for the summer
term. We recognize that some spring courses will also need to meet over the summer
to make up hands-on content in our labs. Instructors are looking forward to returning
to labs and working with you to complete your coursework. They will be reaching out
with those plans soon. The Fall Semester is scheduled to begin on August 24. We are
looking forward to engaging with you online, with Zoom and back in classrooms this
fall.
We know many of you have experienced hardships and challenges during this pandemic.

has brought while helping you find the best path forward to completing your educational
