Online Student Specialist

Eastern Iowa Community College is seeking an Online Student Specialist.


This is a fulltime salaried position (Level F), 80% remote position; 20% on a campus.

(Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 1 p.m. - 9 p.m.)                                

Under the direction of the Dean of E-Learning and the Associate Dir. for Postsecondary Transition, this position will be responsible for: 

The Online Student Retention Specialist will lead student success initiatives including student retention, and student support to graduation by working closely with online students, faculty, and the E-Learning, admissions and student services teams. This individual will support course mapping of classes, integrate themselves with the admission process, utilize attendance tracking for students within courses, be knowledgeable in fully online programs, answer all online student communication regarding student enrollment (i.e. textbook, financial aid, extenuating circumstances, technology, etc.). The Specialist recommends processes and policy, utilizes common academic applications (e.g. Canvas, Microsoft) and crafts written communication for online faculty and students. This is an 80% remote position; 20% on a campus. (Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 1 p.m. - 9 p.m.)

Qualifications will include:

  • Bachelor's degree required preferred. Master's degree preferred
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, ability to master student information systems such as Datatel
  • Demonstrate ability to work collegially with a culturally diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and administrators on a regular basis
  • Experience with an online academic support environment preferred
  • Experience with online learning tools such as Canvas and Zoom
  • Experience working in an educational environment preferred
  • Experience in the online learning environment
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to make group presentations
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
