Maintenance Assistant

Clinton Community College is seeking a part-time (15-19 hours per week) Maintenance Assistant. This position will serve the Clinton Community College Campus.

$15.25/Hour

Position Summary:

Under direction, performs routine building maintenance duties to keep orderly assigned areas in buildings and adjacent areas maintained. Follows prescribed written or oral procedures in performance of duties. Performs general maintenance duties as requested. This will be a 15-20 hours per week AM position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Person in this position may have any combination of education and experience which provides the ability to read and write at a level required for successful job performance. 
  • Some prior experience in applicable work is desirable.  
  • Must have knowledge of general maintenance.  
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Other abilities and knowledge required are knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in maintaining the campus facilities; ability to lift 50+ lbs; work at heights; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to work cooperatively with others; and be physically able to perform assigned duties.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Does light and general maintenance and repairs on buildings, equipment, and machines in physical plant including air conditioning, heating units, electrical fixtures, plumbing, carpentry and masonry in and around college buildings.
  • Performs general maintenance and upkeep of College vehicles, tractors, and other ground equipment.
  • Opens buildings and checks thermostat settings.
  • Cleans work areas.
  • Change lights and ballasts when necessary.
  • Assists maintenance supervisor in completing work orders.
  • Prepares walls and paints as designated.
  • Uses power hand tools.
  • Helps unload and receive shipments.
  • Assembles new equipment.
  • Moves furniture and equipment as directed.
  • Sets up for special activities and is present when necessary.
  • Assist in removal of snow from grounds, walkways, and access drives and runs errands as needed
  • Is committed to providing quality service that meets or exceeds the expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Performs all duties as directed by Facility Operations Coordinator.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
