New Physical Therapist Assistant program
Eastern Iowa Community Colleges is pleased to announce a new Physical Therapist Assistant program at its Clinton Community College (CCC) campus.
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) perform components of physical therapy procedures and related tasks as directed by a supervising physical therapist. PTAs help patients and clients who have movement difficulties due to injury or disease, by assisting the Physical Therapist with therapies designed to improve mobility, relieve pain, prevent or limit permanent physical disability, and promote overall fitness and wellness.
To make room for the program, CCC has completely remodeled its former chemistry lab into a state of the art physical therapist lab. The college unveiled a new science addition to the college in 2010 with new facilities for its biology, physics, chemistry, and anatomy and physiology classes. That ultimately opened up the space in the main building for this new PTA program.
The college will be hosting information sessions in May to introduce interested students to the program. Three sessions are currently scheduled, beginning at 6 p.m.:
Strahan Hall 27
Muscatine Community College
152 Colorado St.
Student Life Center
Scott Community College
500 Belmont Road
Clinton Community College

The college is currently developing an "Application for Candidacy" to be presented
to the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
Students can begin taking prerequisite courses at this time. Students are required to have all foundational prerequisite coursework completed prior to the start of the technical phase of the program. The application process for admission into the PTA program will begin in the Spring semester of 2015.
A limited number of students will be admitted to the program each year. The college anticipates being able to accept up to 24 students each fall semester.
